Pelican 1650 Case
Material
The Pelican 1650 case is made from
polypropylene copolymer. The case itself is made
through a process called injection molding. The
material is light weight, yet still retains enough
strength to
withstand abusive environments including shipping
and weather conditions. The polypropylene copolymer
can withstand a constant temperature from the ranges
of -40 / 210° F.
Colors
The 1650 Pelican case comes in two
standard colors: Black & Desert Tan. Black is an
original color by Pelican and has not changed since
the first day of production. Desert Tan was made
available later as a solution to the United States
military and their desert warfare activities.
Latches
The 1650 has the same latches as the
rest of the Pelican case line. The latches which are
made in two separate pieces each hinge against each
other allowing them to be opened more easily. This
concept is especially important to the larger
pelican cases such as the 1650 as full cases push
heavily against the inside of the lid. The case
specifically has 7 latches. 3 located on the front
and 2 located on each side.
Handles
Rubber molded on the inside of each
handle allow for a non-slip grip. The case has a
total of 3 handles all of which fold down during
heavy transit to prevent damage. At approximately
8.25" the handle on the front of the 1650 case is
larger than the two sides which measure roughly
5.50" each.
Tilt Wheels
& Extension Handle
The case
comes with tilt wheels and an extension handle. When
extended the tip of the extension handle measures
41.25" from the ground. There are 4 wheels total
separated in pairs. The extra two wheels are made to
support a much heavier case. When fully extended or
in the down position the extension handle snaps into
place.
Exterior
DimensionsCase Exterior:
32.50"L x 20.50"W x 11.31"D
Cardboard Box Exterior (Shipping
Dimensions): 32.50"L x 21.00"W x 13.00"D
Purge Valve
The 1650 has 1
automatic purge valve located on the front left
side. This dome like feature allows air to move
freely in and out of the case, adjusting interior
pressure to match the outside. In high elevations
the case would be impossible to open without the
purge valve. It works automatically and requires no
user attention.
Locking HolesA total of 2
padlock holes are incorporated into the front of the
case. Reinforced with stainless steel helps prevent
the case itself from being compromised in the event
of an attempted thief. Each hole will fit a standard
size lock.
NameplateThe case comes
with a blank nameplate that can only be removed when
the case is open. Located on the front of the case
on the right side, the nameplate can be sent to to
Pelican Products who will customize it to the users
specifications. At the time of this article the
nameplate is sent into Pelican which allows for 19
characters on 3 different lines. It costs $9.95 each
and is shipped within 2-3 days from arrival.
Hinges
The Pelican 1650 Case
comes with 3 hinges which support the lid. The
hinges are designed to hold the lid upright when
open and do not allow the lid to fold 180 degrees
(flat). A one way pin opening allows the supporting
pin to be inserted only one way. This prevents the
pin from being hammered out with a tap compromising
security. The pin is stainless steel and will not
rust in outdoor or harsh environments.
Bottom
The bottom of the
case is designed with 6 bumpers which the case rests
on when in sitting. The bumpers encase the hardware
for the extension handle protecting it from the
outside. The bumpers also align to the top of a
different 1650 case when the Pelican cases need to
be stacked for storage. |
